Brain Power!
Last Friday was Rock Band Night! Read on for a semi-exciting tale of Chinese Food, Duct Tape, and the Majesty of Rock!
Rock Band Night!
We had most of the ingredients for a successful party:
- Consumables, including Pizza, beer, soda, veggie dumplings, and whatever else was leftover in the fridge
- People ready to rock
- One recently replaced Rock Band drum kit
- An Xbox 360 chock-full o’ downloaded songs
- A projector projecting an HD image 12 feet wide and 7 feet high. Yeah, that’s how we roll.
Rocking ensued, and it was awesome. Some evening highlights:
- Our all-Expert attempts to earn Gold Stars. The top score of the night was Creep — but no gold stars, alas. Maybe next time?
- Sabotage, with Yury on vocals. Seriously, that one never gets old.
(“Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!”) - Learning that you can add the lyric “Brain Power!” at the end of pretty much any chorus.
But the main highlight of the evening happened later: innovation born of a terrible tragedy.
After midnight, after we let it all hang out, an overenthusiastic drummer managed to break our pedal in half. (I mean, I like Metallica too, but come on!) Fortunately for us, we were able to rebuild the pedal with some IKEA wrenches, a pair of chopsticks, and a healthy supply of duct tape. (Good thing we ordered those dumplings!) Ah, sweet duct tape. Is there nothing you can’t do?
With the Frankenpedal (IT’S ALIVE!) up and springing, rocking resumed.

You win like 80 gazillion internet points for not spelling it “Duck tape”.
Brain Power!!!
Metallica requires rock. I gave that to the video game. It rewarded me with points. The pedal was not happy. FWIW, it happened to my own pedal too:
